Senator Mitt Romney of the United States has tested positive for Covid-19. Romney, 74, "is now asymptomatic and will be isolated and working remotely for the suggested period of time,".

His wife tested negative for the virus, and the couple has been fully vaccinated and boosted against it, according to the report. Despite being completely vaccinated, Romney joins dozens of other members of Congress who have tested positive for the virus. Senator Mark Warner of Virginia and Representative Raul Grijalva of Arizona have also reported positive test results in recent weeks.

According to the CDC, while vaccination reduces the risk of getting COVID-19, breakthrough infections are still prevalent. However, studies have indicated that vaccination reduces the chances of a person being hospitalised or dying from the infection.

According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the current seven-day moving average of daily new cases in the United States is still near 600,000. The country's entire Covid-19 caseload and death toll remained at 74,058,529 and 882,275, respectively, as of Saturday morning.
