U.S. to deploy 1,000 troops in Iran, China says results will be serious

WASHINGTON: The United States said on Monday that it has allowed the deployment of 1,000 additional troops in West Asia in the wake of deepening tensions with Iran. The statement came after the U.S. said it would raise its uranium reserves within 10 days if the world did not fulfill its commitments under the nuclear deal. On the other hand, China has warned that the US's announcement of deploying 1,000 additional troops in West Asia will have serious consequences.

Acting Defence Minister Patrick Shanahan said in a statement that the troops are being transported "to counter air, naval, and ground threats in West Asia," Shanahan said, adding that "recent attacks have been carried out hostilely to Iranian forces and groups acting at its behest." Intelligence obtained on which confirmed a threat to U.S. personnel and their interests throughout the region.'

"The U.S. does not want any tension with Iran," he said, adding that "the goal of the deployment is to ensure the safety and welfare of our military personnel working across the region and to protect our national interests." The Gulf was said to be responsible for two tanker attacks. However, Tehran dismissed it as "unfounded".
