India is the one of the largest democratic country in the world and uses the soft power diplomacy towards the happening around the globe. India’s soft power capabilities are exaggerated when set against the reality of corruption, endemic poverty, and other social and economic issues.

India boasts a global diaspora, and also admired for its focus on education, political pluralism, and religious diversity. While in the past India may have been assumed to be a recipient of foreign aid, in recent years it has even become a donor of economic aid to less developed countries.

 The global ranking of soft power, the communication and public relations consultancy Portland suggests "Modi's India is definitely a soft power player to watch in the years ahead." Under Modi governance India is using a strategic approach towards using the soft-power.  

Soft power is the ability to shape the preference of others through appeal and attraction which is balanced on three pillars of political values, culture and foreign policy. India has always relied on soft power diplomacy, and never more than under current Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.  

With the perspective of religion, culture and spiritualism which is the base coat of India’s existence, India has provided the gift of Yoga to world which is a major soft power tool in India’s centre which enjoys millions of enthusiastic practitioners worldwide. Soft power brought with it an impression of upright hovering sphere and reliability, which motivated the developing nations across the world after seeing India’s position.

The state has used specific soft power assets of India such as Diaspora, Yoga, Buddhism and economic support for accomplishing diplomatic triumphs and advancing the nation’s national interests.

India’s soft power draws traditional, religious, ethno-linguistic and constructive relations with other nations. Everything as a component of the Indian culture was fascinating for the outside world. India dedicated itself to gaining internationally through commerce and statecraft, apart from “soft” power.

The time when economic turmoil in the West is generating apprehensions about the value of democracy, India continues to signal the virtues of a democratic political order. The Modi government is striving to not only revive national pride in the country's ancient values, but also enhance India's hard power by using its soft-power advantages.
