TRAI's new cable TV and DTH rules have been implemented since February this year. Since this new rule comes into force, users will now pay for the channels they see. According to the new rule, all subscribers have the freedom to choose the channel they want. For this, users are required to pay a monthly payment of a minimum of Rs 130 (without tax). In the monsoon session of the Lok Sabha, the I&B Ministry said that TRAI's new cable TV and DTH rules are saving users 10 to 15 percent per month in Metro City. In the newly elected Lok Sabha, the I&B ministry has stated that the new rule is benefiting millions of consumers across the country. The new rule was to be implemented only in July last year but was finally implemented in February-March this year.

In a statement, the I&B Ministry said that the new TRAI rule has not only benefited the users of metro cities but also benefited the users of semi-metro cities. All these users have received a 5 to 10 percent reduction in monthly rent. The I&B Ministry gave this figure in response to a question asked by MK Raghavan in the Lok Sabha. According to the TRAI report, analysis of the prudential data after the implementation of this rule revealed that subscribers in metro cities are saving 10 to 15 percent while non-metro city subscribers are saving 5 to 10 percent.

As per the information received, the Network Capacity Fee (NFC) is being paid more than ever after the new TRAI rule comes into force. After the reports came, TRAI Chairman R S Sharma said that such research reports were designed without understanding the TV distribution market. The I&B ministry also told the Lok Sabha that TRAI has taken some steps to help consumers. It is being used to help users to select channels through website, TV customer care channel number 999 and call center. The Channel Selector App was also released on the website to ensure that users have no problem selecting the channel. This app allows users to estimate the cost of a month after you select the channels.
