Uttar Pradesh to promote biofuel production: CM Yogi

LUCKNOW: Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh  has directed concerned officials to prepare a bioenergy policy that will promote biofuel production in the state.

The Chief Minister said that efforts to promote bioenergy projects including compressed biogas (CBG), biocoal, ethanol, and biodiesel have succeeded in fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi's objective. He said production has already started on two units of compressed biogas and two units of biocoal, respectively.

The Chief Minister said that attempts should be made to construct at least one biofuel unit in each of the 75 districts, and in a subsequent phase, it should be expanded to include every tehsil.

He recommended using vacant property in village societies, revenue land, or sugar mill premises for the construction of biofuel plants and the storage of biomass.

Biofuel will help meet energy requirements and help generate additional income and also give employment, Yogi said, adding that the state will have to develop the biomass supply chain for future needs.

"The use of biofuels in the fields of energy and transportation needs to be encouraged. It is advisable to employ biomass pellets in power plants. There is a need for coordinated efforts in this direction." The Chief Minister emphasised the value of biofuels by stating that their promotion will assist reduce reliance on crude oil and advance a cleaner environment.
