Mahoba: Police in Belatal town of Mahoba district of Uttar Pradesh recovered the body of an 18-year-old Dalit girl student who was hanging from the noose on a tree late Saturday evening. Deputy Superintendent of Police (CO) of Kulapahar, Ramushal Rai said on Sunday that the body of a 12th class Dalit student (18), who lived in a locality in Belatal town at around 7 pm on Saturday evening, has been found hanged from the noose in a tree in the mountain at some distance from the Chhamhi Devi temple in a suspicious situation. Her post-mortem will be conducted.

He said that the girl went to buy vegetable from home at about 12 o'clock on Saturday afternoon. When she did not return home until late in the evening, the family searched for her and reported the body hanging on the tree from the shepherds at around 7 o'clock in the evening, after which the police were informed.

The girl's elder mother told the police that a boy from the street had been harassing her on the phone for a month. She alleged that the girl was murdered and the body was hanged from the tree. Rai said that the woman's allegations are also being investigated. The cause of the girl's death will be known after the post-mortem report.
