Lucknow: A case of an attempt to forcibly marry a Hindu girl from Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh by kidnapping her and forcing her to convert has come to light. The accused have been identified as two brothers Anwar and Sarwar. Two other members of his family are also said to be involved in the incident on April 21, 2022. The incident is being reported from the Ghazipur police station area. According to media reports, the victim had gone to the market to buy clothes. From the way, he was crushed by Anwar and Sarwar.
The accused were in the process of getting the victim's religion changed. But, in the meantime, the victim's family members searched for her and reached the market where the victim was taken to the scene. On seeing the girl's family members, the accused left her and fled. When VHP leaders came to know about the incident, they reached the police station and demanded strict action against the accused. The victim told the media, "I left home for the market at around 10 am on Thursday (April 21, 2022). Suddenly, two brothers named Anwar and Sarwar forced me to sit on the bike. Put the scarf on my mouth. Threatened me to keep quiet all the way.
The victim said that the accused threatened her that they would destroy her and her family. Sarwar was pressurising her to become a Muslim by marrying him. They took her about 8 miles away. But seeing her brother coming, they left her and fled. She later came to know that Anwar and Sarwar were also behind his father and his sister who were helping them in this incident. "When I complained about the incident to the local police station, they did not lodge my complaint. In front of me, 4 pages of my complaint were torn by SHO Sangam Lal Prajapati. The police station was not writing a complaint about the pressure created on me to change my religion. Local outpost in-charge Pramod Kumar Maurya is asking me to nab the accused. How can I catch them? We have just come to know that Anwar and Sarwar's father Lalu has been taken into custody. '
Speaking to the media, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) general secretary Dr Vijay Shankar Mishra said, "The victim's family was very scared. The girl has described the accused as a very domineering family. We all gave courage to that family. At first, the police tried to hush up the case. The accused were set to be booked under lighter sections. But when we all took cognizance of it, the police officer present at the spot admitted his mistake and assured action under appropriate sections.''
