Lucknow: A case of theft and resale of body shrouds from Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh has come to light. A large gang has been busted in connection with the whole case, which used to steal shrouds from places like crematoriums and wash them and press them and put branded stickers on them and sell them back in the market. The Baraut police have arrested 7 persons in the case.

Inspector Of Baraut Police Today Sharma said that police were engaged in a search operation due to lockdown when a car loaded with branded clothes was seized. When the accused were questioned strictly for not having a clothing bill, the distinction between the entire act was revealed. According to police, the accused used to steal the clothes and shrouds of the bodies from the cemetery and cremation ground. 300-400, who used to steal the shroud of dead bodies and other clothes.

The accused used to wash and press on the stolen clothes. These clothes were then fitted with stickers from gwalior's branded company and sold at high prices. According to the accused, the price of a shroud ranged from Rs 400. It has also come to light in this case that they used to steal clothes from the bodies of corona infected patients. A case has been registered against all the accused under various sections of 144 violation and epidemic act.
