After 53 years, Bareilly is going to get its 'Jhumka'; read on!

Bareilly: Bareilly became famous in 1966 when Bollywood veteran actress Sadhana performed the dance in the 1966 film "Mers Saya" in the song 'Jhumka Gira Ray, Bareilly Ke Bazaar'. However, Bareilly has no speciality in making and selling earrings, nor has the city ever made any effort to capitalise on the popularity of the song.

But now, after more than 53 years, Bareilly is going to get her earrings. According to sources, the Bareilly Development Authority (BDA) has asked the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to develop Paraskheda Zero Point on Delhi-Bareli route as a 'Jhumka' Tirah. A few years ago, even in the early 90s, the project was said to be there, but then the lack of adequate funds and the lack of proper space could not move forward.

The BDA has also called for a number of designs for the 'Jhumaks'. It was to be built at the Delapir Tiraha and then it was built in a big bypass, but the decision was changed in view of traffic problems at these two locations.
