Bijnor: Rajendra, a resident of Hasanpur village in Bijnor, who has been playing Dashratha in Ramlila for 20 years in a row, has died on the Ramleela stage. The incident took place on the night of October 14, 2021 (Thursday). The incident sent shock waves across the region. After which the staging of Ramlila in honour of late Rajendra was stopped.

According to media reports, Rajendra's other fellow actors, who became Dashratha in the incident in Hasanpur village of Afzalgarh area of Bijnor, were earlier considered to be Dashrath's performance. In the ongoing Ramlila, When King Dashratha saw his General Secretary Sumant returning without Ram who had gone to exile, he got emotional. He said Ram-Ram 2 times and fell down. All the devotees and other artists watching Ramlila were also moved by the lively staging. The curtain was then dropped for the next scene. When fellow actors arrived to pick up Rajendra Singh, he felt that Rajendra was no longer in the world. A local doctor was called after seeing his condition but the doctor declared him brought dead.

The late Rajendra Singh was 62 years old. He had been participating in religious acts since childhood. The cause of his death is said to be cardiac arrest. According to the order of the late Rajendra's nephew and resident of the same village Hasanpur, a 4-day Ramleela is held in his village every year. The special scenes of Ramlila are staged from Saptami to Dussehra.
