Hathras: The incident of alleged gang rape of a 19-year-old Dalit girl by four upper caste men has come to light in Uttar Pradesh. The accused have also tried to strangle the victim. The victim has been admitted to ICU at Aligarh Medical College. However, the victim had recorded her statement to the police in the days after the incident and said that on September 14, when she went to take fodder for the animals, four upper caste men raped her.

Earlier, on the basis of a complaint filed by the victim's brother, the police has registered a case against an accused identified as Sandeep under the provisions of the SC/ST Act. The accused has also been taken to rest and remanded to judicial custody. The victim's family has alleged that the accused had attempted to kill the girl over the old enmity.

The girl's confession was followed by a rape charge in the FIR on Tuesday and a case was filed against three more persons. "Another accused has been caught and others will be taken to rest soon," hathras SP Vikrant Veer has said while briefing the case.
