Lucknow: The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has stayed the FIR registered in connection with the razing of a 100-year-old mosque in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh. The FIR was registered on the Mosque Committee. The state government has also been ordered to file a counter affidavit within three weeks on a petition seeking quashing of the FIR.

The 100-year-old mosque in Ramsnehighat tehsil was demolished by the administration in the past. At the same time, the administration had registered a case against the Masjid Committee for registering the 100-year-old mosque built in the tehsil complex in a fake manner with the Sunni Waqf Board. The matter was then moved to the High Court. An FIR was registered in connection with the declaration of this illegal occupation as wakf property after demolishing the mosque in tehsil premises recently. The inspector of the Wakf Property Committee and the Sunni Central Wakf Board was booked on the complaint of the district minority welfare officer.

The Barabanki district administration claimed that the Wakf property had manipulated the documents and filed government land without a revenue report. A designated FIR was registered against 8 persons at Ramsnehi Ghat Kotwali in Barabanki. The issue had also taken a political turn and the Congress had raised the issue with the Samajwadi Party (SP).
