Lucknow: Cases of conversion from Uttar Pradesh are constantly coming to light. Now, the news of pressure for conversion in the Jaunpur district of the state has again created a stir. According to information received, a woman from Majdiha village under the Kotwali area of Jaunpur district of eastern Uttar Pradesh has accused her uncle-in-law of her own relationship who had converted to Islam some time ago of forcing her to become a Muslim with physical and mental torture.

The victim says she was not heard when she complained to the local police station. After a lot of difficulties, a case was registered after the intervention of the Superintendent of Police, which boosted the morale of the accused. In the case, a petition filed by victim Manita Prajapati alleged that her uncle-in-law Salik's son Mahabal had become a Muslim many years ago and now calls himself Mohammed Salik. According to the victim, they are now taking turns pressurising everyone else to convert to Islam. First, they wanted to make his brother, the victim's father-in-law Lorik Prajapati, a Muslim. However, he did not listen to his converted brother.

The victim says that after the death of her father-in-law, Md. Salik first lured the victim and her entire family with money, and when things did not work out, he started physically and mentally harassing the entire family. The complaint also says that Mohammed Salik, who failed in his intentions, has also threatened to grab the entire property of the victim and kill her. According to the victim, Mohammad Salik has also carried out several deadly attacks on her husband Jitendra. On the other hand, Jaunpur police are describing the entire case as a case of mutual money transactions. According to Jaunpur police, inspector-in-charge Shahganj has said that there was a dispute between the two sides over money transactions in which NCR has been registered against Md. Salik. In view of peace, challans of both sides have been made under section 151/107/116 CRPC. The victim expressed dissatisfaction over the police action so far and said that no matter what happens, she will not become a Muslim. It is alleged that the police did not take any action on the complaint of the victim and her husband Jitendra was fined in the name of breach of peace.
