Lucknow: Political mercury has been hot on the ordinance passed by the Yogi government of the state against Love Jihad in Uttar Pradesh. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati said that many laws are already in place to prevent conversion by coercion and deceit. In such a situation, the state government should rethink this new law.

BSP supremo and former UP chief minister Mayawati said, "The conversion ordinance brought by the UP government against love jihad is full of apprehension, whereas forcible and deceitful conversion anywhere in the country has neither special recognition nor acceptance. Many laws are already effective in this regard. Government should reconsider this. " The Uttar Pradesh cabinet unanimously approved the ordinance on love jihad. After this it was sent to Governor Anandi Ben Patel to be passed. Governor Anandi Ben Patel has signed this ordinance and approved it today. Now within 6 months this ordinance will have to be passed by the state government from the assembly.

According to the UP government's ordinance, there is a provision of a jail term of 1 to 5 years with a fine of Rs 15,000 for conversion by force or deception. If this is done with minors and women of the SC-ST community, then there can be a jail term of 3 to 10 years with a fine of Rs 25,000. In the ordinance, people desirous of religious conversion will have to inform the DM 2 months in advance on the prescribed format, there is a provision for punishment of 6 months to 3 years for the violation and the amount of fine should not be less than Rs 10 thousand.
