Lucknow:  Monsoon is slowly gaining momentum in Uttar Pradesh. On Wednesday, light rain was recorded in the Gorakhpur-Basti division, while Varanasi and adjoining districts recorded light and heavy rains. During this, 6 people lost their lives due to lightning. According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon is expected to be fully active in the next two days. Due to this, heavy rains may occur in many parts of the state including Mahoba, Jhansi, Orai, Bahraich, Ayodhya and Shravasti. 

In the Gorakhpur-Basti division, the rain which started after 3 am on Wednesday, continued throughout the day. During this, the broadcast was interrupted due to lightning at the Gorakhpur Akashvani Kendra, while the communication service came to a standstill due to lightning on the tower in Deoria. The dome and wall of the temple got damaged due to lightning in Sant Kabir Nagar. The priest and other people narrowly survived. All the rivers of the Siddharthnagar district are running in spate due to rain.

Narayani river is flowing 60 cm above the danger mark at Bhainsaha gauge of Chitauni dam in Kushinagar. The water level of the sandalwood and Jharhi rivers coming from Nepal has increased in Maharajganj. Rain was also recorded in Ghazipur, Mau, Azamgarh, Jaunpur, Chandauli and Bhadohi. At the same time, light drizzle was seen in Varanasi and Sonbhadra. Two people each died in Ballia-Siddharthnagar and one each in Gorakhpur and Fatehpur due to lightning during rain. Two buffaloes died due to lightning in the Kothibhar area of ​​Maharajganj.
