65-year-old priest crushed to death by temple bell, villagers demand for strict action

Lucknow: A priest was brutally murdered by squeezing his face from the temple's bell in the Brahm Dev temple premises outside the Babupur village in the Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh. In the morning, the women of the village saw and informed the villagers. Police, who rushed to the spot, have taken the body into custody and started an investigation. Villagers have reported that 8 hours of brass metal weighing about 20 kg have been stolen in the temple. This caused resentment among the villagers. In view of the situation, the Superintendent of Police has sent the police, CO and Additional SP of four police stations to the spot.

The incident took place at the Babupur village under the Kursi police station area. There is a Brahma Dev temple outside the village. The boy, Ram Yadav (65), a resident of Babupur, was a priest at the temple for the last seven years. Last night, the miscreants killed the priest after stealing the temple's bell. On Tuesday morning, Vidyavati, a woman from the village, had arrived at the temple to offer prayers. According to the woman, when she saw the bloodstain from Baba's cot, she came to know about the incident. The woman came to the village and informed the people. A large number of villagers rushed to the spot as soon as they heard about the priest's murder. Villagers noticed that all the temple's bells were missing and the priest's face was crushed. The villagers reported it to the police. The Baddupur police first reached the spot. Police station president Shikha Singh informed the SP about the incident in the Kursi police station area. SP Anurag Vats ordered to send police stations of Deva, Fatehpur, Baddupur, Ghunghater, Kursi etc. on the spot. Along with this, Additional SP and CO Fatehpur also reached the spot.

During the interrogation of the police, the villagers told that the deceased priest has three bighas of land. He has two sisters. The priest was married many years ago, but the wife does not live together. The police is also looking into linking the murder of Priest with the property case. The villagers say that the priest may have seen the thieves in the temple while stealing, due to which the thieves killed them. The police has called a forensic team to the spot, which will collect the evidence on the spot. CO Fatehpur says that the reason for the murder of the priest is being investigated. It will be revealed soon on the basis of post-mortem report and other evidence.
