Lucknow: Tension prevailed in the area after three youths shot dead a monkey in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district. According to Hindu belief, the monkey is considered to be the form of Lord Hanuman and it is considered a sin to hurt monkeys. Kairana Officer (CO) Pradeep Kumar has informed about the case.

Pradeep Kumar has told that an FIR has been lodged against three brothers - Asif, Hafiz and Anees - who were allegedly roaming around the monkey on Saturday and one of them had killed the monkey with the family's licensed weapons. Monkey shot dead. Police said the bullet hit the monkey's back and he died shortly thereafter. After the information, forest department officials reached the spot and delivered the body of the monkey for postmortem, after which he was buried.

The Forest Department has filed a lawsuit under the sections of the Wildlife Safety Act 1972, which provides for a six-month jail and fine. However, no one has been arrested so far. After the incident, local activists of Bajrang Dal protested and villagers gathered with them as the news spread. The district president of Bajrang Dal youth unit Sunny Saroha said that three youths of the Muslim community have shot and killed the monkey, we demand action against it.
