Now the number plate of battery-run vehicles will change: UP Administration

Unnao: Along with other districts of UP, the roads in Unnao district are also flooded with battery-powered vehicles including e-rickshaws. The Department of Transport has framed a new rule for number plates on battery-powered vehicles that are running in the district. According to the new rule, these vehicles, now powered by electricity, will be charged with a green colour number plate. Other commercial vehicles will be fitted with yellow and white car number plates on private vehicles.

In fact, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has amended the Motor Rules in the past to separate the identification of battery operated vehicles on the roads, making green number plates mandatory for battery-powered e-rickshaw vehicles. The yellow registration number will be written on the number plate. On the other hand, the registration number for other class of battery vehicles will be written in white on the green number plate. While commercial vehicles will be able to digitise the vehicle's number in white on the green number plate.

According to the Sub-Divisional Transport Office of Unnao, there are 1675 registered vehicles in the district on which the order will apply. Officials say the new system will make it easier to identify battery-powered vehicles.
