Sultanpur: On receipt of the information of the informer at Sultanpur railway station in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, the forest department and GRP team arrested 2 smugglers from the Begumpura Express train. During the search, 195 tortoises have been found from them, which were being taken for sale in West Bengal via Banaras.

Forest Department Ranger Amarjeet Mishra has told that after secret information, an intensive search was done in the Begumpura Express train which reached Sultanpur station with the help of GRP Police. During this time 195 tortoises were seized from the possession of Akhilesh and Salim, living in Jagdishpur Gandhinagar in Amethi district. Both were taken off the train to GRP police station. According to the GRP in-charge, both the arrested youths smuggle turtles. They were taking the recovered turtles through Banaras to West Bengal, where it will be sold at expensive prices to make stimulant medicines.

Before this, the smuggling of turtles has been disclosed on a large scale from nearby districts including Sultanpur, Amethi. On most occasions, traffickers have been arrested while smuggling from trains. From West Bengal, these turtles are sent to many countries including China. The demand for Indian turtles abroad is very high.
