GONDA: A tragic incident unfolded on Thursday in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district as at least four coaches of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh train, numbered 15904, derailed in the Gonda-Mankapur region. The derailment occurred at 2:35 pm, according to a statement from Railways.

Reports indicate that two individuals have tragically lost their lives in the accident. Pankaj Singh, CPRO of North Eastern Railway, stated, "Railways' medical van has reached the site, and rescue operations are underway. Helpline numbers have been activated. The incident occurred around 2:37 pm, and initial reports suggest that 4-5 coaches have derailed."

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, has been briefed about the incident and directed officials to swiftly reach the spot and expedite relief efforts. He emphasized ensuring proper medical treatment for the injured.

Senior railway and local administration officials are present at the scene, overseeing the rescue operations.

This incident comes just a month after the tragic Kanchanjunga Express accident, which claimed the lives of at least 10 individuals. The Commissioner of Railway Safety highlighted deficiencies in operational procedures and urged comprehensive reforms to prevent such accidents in the future, citing issues with automatic signalling systems.
