Akhlaq absconding after killing cow for 17 years, now arrested

Lucknow: The Saharanpur police in Uttar Pradesh have arrested the accused, who has been absconding from Haryana for the past 15 years in connection with a cow slaughter case, on January 21. The accused has been identified as Akhlaq. The Saharanpur police have informed the Haryana Police. According to Saharanpur police, Akhlaq is a vicious and habitual criminal. His arrest came after information received from the informer.

During the arrest, one 12 bore gun and 2 live cartridges were also recovered from Akhlaq's possession. The arrest has been made in Shahbad Markanda village under the Nagal police station area. The accused village Nanheda Budhdakheda police station is a resident of Nagal, Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Akhlaq had been declared a fugitive from a Haryana Kurukshetra court for 15 years. Akhlaq is also known as Ikhlaq by the locals. His father's name is Nisar. In 2005, Akhlaq was booked for cow slaughter in Kurukshetra, Haryana. About 5 cases of various cases have already been registered against him at Thana Nagal in Radour, Saharanpur, Haryana. A new case of possession of illegal weapons has also been registered against him at Thana Nagal.

Talking to the media, SSP Saharanpur IPS Akash Tomar said, "Saharanpur police is on alert as part of zero-tolerance policy towards crime. In the same episode, the police team cordoned off the area and arrested the accused Akhlaq as soon as he came to know about the absconding accused from Haryana. Legal action is being taken in the matter.''
