Prayagraj: A case of poppy cultivation has come up in the Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh. The STF unit has arrested a man from Malak Payagi, a village under the Sonrao police station area of Prayagraj. The name of the man is Man Singh Patel. There is a charge against Man Singh Patel that he was also secretly cultivating poppy amidst the mustard crop.

According to Additional SP Neeraj Pandey of STF Prayagraj unit, illegal poppy cultivation was being reported in the Soraon police station area of Prayagraj for few days. A team of STF found red poppy on the farm of Man Singh Patel in Malak Payagi village and found poppy crops on about 4200 square feet of land. On seeing the field from a distance, it seemed that mustard was grown in it, but it was Man Singh Patel's trick to keep people in confusion.

As soon as the illegal cultivation of opium was confirmed, the STF informed the Narcotics Control Bureau. The NCB destroyed the poppy crop in the field itself and the STF arrested Man Singh Patel. Additional SP Neeraj Pandey of STF Prayagraj Unit told that planting more than two saplings in Uttar Pradesh is a punishable offense. Licenses have been issued for poppy cultivation in only four districts Barabanki, Ghazipur, Bareilly, and Badaun.
