New Delhi: The Modi government has announced a package of Rs 3500 crore for the payment of arrears on behalf of sugar mills to sugarcane farmers of the country. There has been no increase in sugarcane prices in the last three years in Uttar Pradesh, which has the largest sugarcane production in the country, due to which the sugar mill owners have cut the sugarcane farmers this time without a price slip.

After the arrival of the Yogi government in the state, the price of sugarcane was increased by just Rs 10 per quintal in the 2017-18 season, after which the price has not been increased again. Whereas sugarcane farmers in the state have the power to create and spoil the power of any party. All India Kisan Sangharsh Committee, President of National Farmers Labor Organization, Farmer leader Sardar BM Singh says that about one and a half months have passed since the sugarcane crushing season started, but the Yogi government of the state has not yet declared the value of sugarcane.

Slips of sugarcane farmers have been cut without any value. Instead of setting the sugarcane rate, the government has taken steps to provide financial assistance to the sugar mill owners. Sugarcane farmers are constantly raising demand for sugarcane prices in the state, but the government is not yet fixing any rate while the inflation rate is increasing continuously.
