Hamirpur: The Yamuna and Betwa rivers are in spate in Uttar Pradesh. The floodwater inundated the city on Sunday morning, disrupting normal life. More than 12 houses have been submerged at the old Jamuna Ghat itself. In some other parts of the city, many houses were flooded due to water coming on the road. The flood affected areas and villages remained blacked out throughout the night.

The Power Corporation took these actions as a precautionary measure as the water level of the rivers continued to rise. The administrative assistance has not reached the flood affected areas so far. At present, the Yamuna river is flowing more than one metre above the red mark. The Betwa river has also crossed the danger mark. More than 12 lakh cusecs of water from Mata mound and Kota barrage, Chambal, has been released into the Yamuna-Betwa rivers. The NDRF team has also not reached here to deal with the floods.

People in flood-hit areas camped on the road in darkness and spent the whole night. The water level of the river Yamuna, which has been rising for two days, reached 104.810 meters at 9 am on Sunday morning. The danger mark of the river is 103.632 meters. The Betwa river has also touched the danger mark of 104.546 metres. At present, the water level of Betwa river has been recorded at 104.840 metres.
