Dehradun: After a long wait, Congress released their list of 53 candidates for the Uttarakhand Assembly elections. The names of the candidates were announced by party general secretary Mukul Wasnik at around 11.40 pm in New Delhi on Saturday. All the nine sitting MLA of the party have been placed on the declared list. The party has fielded Bhuvan Chandra Kapdi against CM Pushkar Singh Dhami in the Khatima seat. In the first list, 3 women have been nominated.
The Congress party has been able to release the list late on Saturday night after a 14-day long struggle to announce the election programme in the same state on January 8. Earlier, the ruling BJP has released its first list of 59 candidates on January 20. Party General Secretary Mukul Wasnik released the list of Congress candidates in the war room at 15 Gurudwara Rakabganj Road (GRG) of the Congress in New Delhi on Saturday.
The same declared list has been announced by party state president Ganesh Godial Srinagar, leader of opposition Pritam Singh as his traditional seat, former Assembly Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal as Jageshwar, former cabinet minister Yashpal Arya from Bajpur and his son Sanjeev Arya from Nainital. In addition, Sumit Hridayesh, son of late Indira Hridayesh, a veteran party leader, has been nominated by Haldwani. Also include Manoj Rawat from Kedarnath, Pritam Singh from Chakrata, Mamta Rakesh from Bhagwanpur, Furkan Ahmed from Piran Clear, Qazi Nizamuddin from Mangalore, Harish Dhami from Dharchula, Karan Mehra from Ranikhet, Govind Singh Kunjwal from Jageshwar, Adesh Chauhan from Jaspur. Moreover, Rajkumar, who is MLA in Purola safe seat, has joined BJP in the recent past. The party has allowed Malchand, who joined the Congress from BJP, in this seat. After the death of veteran party leader Indira Hridayesh in Haldwani, the party has bet on her son Sumit Hridayesh.
