The state government has sent a proposal to the Center to revive the completely demolished transport corporation economy due to the lockdown. The proposal sent to Union Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has sought financial assistance of Rs 244.50 crore. This amount will be able to make up for the loss of the transport system. In this proposal sent by Transport Minister Yashpal Arya, Rs 112.50 crore has been sought for the drivers and their assistants driving private public vehicles.

All of them are useless since the lockdown and are facing severe economic crisis. Organizations associated with them are demanding immediate financial assistance. It is believed that if the proposal is approved by the Center, the government can give a lump sum financial assistance of Rs 5000 to every driver, but this amount will depend on the amount of the package approved by the Center. Apart from this, salary expenses of Uttarakhand Transport Corporation employees have also been sought from the Center. The operation of roadways buses has come to a complete standstill due to the lockdown.

Roadways earnings are zero. The proposal calls for Rs 132 crore as six months' salary for all permanent and temporary employees of the corporation. Union Minister Gadkari had last week sought financial assistance to help people associated with the transport department through video conferencing. He asked to send a written proposal. The proposal has been sent. We hope that the Central Government will consider the proposal generously and issue us an economic package.
