Dehradun: The Uttarakhand High Court on Thursday commented on the demand to postpone elections amid corona infection. The court said it is not the job of the court to postpone the elections. A bench of Acting Chief Justice of the High Court Sanjay Kumar Mishra and Justice NS Dhanik, hearing the case, refused to give directions banning the rallies.

At the same time, the court said that it is not the job of the court to postpone the elections. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has already given some directions. It is an institution which is unique. ECI is doing a commendable job. Assembly elections in Uttarakhand are scheduled to be held on February 14, 2022. All major political parties have started campaigning here.

Advocate Shobhit Saharia, appearing for the same Election Commission, told the court that rallies in the electoral states have already been banned till January 15. The Election Commission will issue further guidelines after examining the situation. Saharia said the election commission has already approved online nominations and if a candidate goes and files his nomination himself, the figure of those accompanying him has been limited. He said that along with several other steps to control the crowd, the statistics of star campaigners have also been banned.
