Dehradun: Heavy rains and floods have wreaked havoc in Uttarakhand. Normal life has been disrupted. According to official data, 52 people have lost their lives so far and rescue operations are still underway. The roads have been converted into ponds and markets have been submerged. People are also running out of food and drink.

Some people told the media, 'Last evening we saw water levels rising at about 6 pm. We went to tell the shopkeepers, but by the time we arrived, the market was submerged.' Raju Kandpal, 50, said, 'I was born and brought up in Rampur. I've never seen such a flood. I hope the water will run out in three to four days.'  30-year-old Savita, it's no less than a nightmare. There is no means of commuting due to waterlogging.

Savita is coming and going by tractor and is forced to pay Rs 100 a time for it. Savita explains, 'No one can move from one place to another. There is a fear of drowning because the water is not receding. My house is on the other side, so I have no other way but to spend money and travel in a tractor-trolley.'
