Nainital: The High Court of Nainital has sent a notice to the former Chief Ministers and the state government on Wednesday i.e. January 22, 2020, after hearing about the outstanding housing rent of the former CM. The court has also instructed the former Chief Ministers to give rent to their government houses as well as other allowances. Advocate Kartikeya Hari Gupta of the High Court had filed a petition in this case on Tuesday, 21 January 2020. The state government has passed the Act giving relief to former chief ministers. The provisions of the Act are being challenged in the High Court by the petition. According to the case, the Rulak Sanstha of Dehradun has filed a PIL and is demanding to pass orders from the former Chief Ministers for the recovery of arrears.

The High Court had ordered the former Chief Ministers to deposit the arrears of facilities at the market rate. After this, the government passed the ordinance and gave relief to the Chief Ministers before depositing the arrears. The Act said that the former Chief Ministers will be charged 25% more than the standard fare in lieu of facilities.

According to the information received, the standard fare will be decided by the government. It also said that the former Chief Minister will bear the arrears of electricity, water, sewerage, government housing, etc but the rent will be decided by the government. Earlier, the court had reserved the decision after completing the hearing in the case. It also said that if the government enacted an act during this period, then the petitioner can challenge it in the court.
