Nainital: In Uttarakhand, the Nainital High Court has shown strictness on those who eat paan, gutkha and spit on the road. Hearing the PIL, the court has ordered the government to strictly enforce the Spitting and Garbage Prohibition Act 2016 in the state. Actually, social activist and lawyer Abhijay Negi had filed a court PIL to implement the provisions of the Act.

On hearing this, the court issued an order to the Secretary Urban Development and Health Secretary and issued directions to publicize the Act. The court had also ordered to present its full report. After this, the state government apprised all the district officials about the various provisions of the Act on 22 May and after that on 26 May, the officers of all the municipal bodies were directed to implement the law strictly.

The court dismissed the petition after filing the state government's reply in the entire case and said that by strictly enforcing this act, it is possible to prevent Uttarakhand from the epidemic like coronavirus. The High Court, while delivering the verdict, has told the petitioner that even after this decision, if the Act is not implemented by the state government or local municipal bodies, then he can again inform the High Court about it.
