Dehradun: The 96-year-old Laxman bridge built on the river Ganga in Rishikesh in Devbhoomi Uttarakhand has been closed for movement. The movement of common people has been temporarily stopped in view of the security considerations. In fact, the Laxman Jhoola bridge was believed to be quite dangerous due to its dilapidated condition and it appears to be tilted to one side. Most parts of the bridge have become 'quite weak' or are in a state of collapse.

However, it is also being reported that it can be opened back after repairs. Additional Chief Secretary Om Prakash said that it has been closed after an investigation by a team of experts. Experts say Laxman's hammock can't bear more loads anymore. Laxman Jhoola was built in the year 1923. The bridge connects the river Ganga to two parts. Laxman Jhoola Bridge is also an unrivalled piece of engineering.

The closure of Laxman Jhoola bridge has dealt a major blow to the locals. People say they are very surprised by this decision. Apart from this, the tourists who visit the place are also frustrated with the closure of the bridge.
