Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government said that 36 bodies have been recovered so far in the Chamoli accident, while 204 people are still missing. District Magistrate of Chamoli, Swati Bhadoria said that there is a ray of hope for the rescue agencies, as two people have been found alive. Rescue agencies started drilling in the Tapovan tunnel through debris to reach 30 people, who are said to have been trapped inside. The work had to be stopped due to the rising water level in the Dhuliganga River again.

Rescuers are trying afresh to install a life support system through oxygen in the tunnel. The main tunnel, where rescue operations are still ongoing and it is believed that more people may be stranded here. According to the information, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) chief spokesperson Vivek Kumar Pandey said, "A drilling operation is still going on by the rescue team in the tunnel peaking around 12-13 meters downstream at 2 o'clock."

It is also being said that Indo-Tibetan Border Police, National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force and Army have set up a multi-agency rescue team to carry out search and rescue operations in the district. The agencies cleaned debris of up to 120 meters on Thursday before the operation stalled due to rising water levels and it is said that workers are stranded at a depth of about 180 meters, where the tunnel is taking a turn. ITBP chief SS Deswal said "I am a technical person and I will not make any guesses. But as the governor said, Badri prays to Vishal (Lord Vishnu) that they are all safe."
