Vacate govt bungalow in 6 weeks: Delhi HC to Swamy

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has ordered BJP strongman Subramanian Swamy, a vocal critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to vacate his official bungalow within six weeks. Swamy had filed a petition in the Delhi High Court seeking re-allotment of the government bungalow. BJP leader Swamy's Rajya Sabha term ended in April this year. After this, the BJP government issued a notice to him to vacate the government accommodation. Swamy had moved the Delhi High Court against the notice.

While filing a petition in the Delhi High Court, Swamy had argued that he has Z category security. Therefore, his bungalow should be re-allotted in view of his security threat. However, the Central government opposed Swamy's stand, saying the bungalow has to be allotted to other ministers and MPs. In January 2016, the Central government allotted a bungalow in Delhi to Subramanian Swamy for five years on the basis of an assessment of the threat to his life. Along with this, his security was also increased.

Now the Delhi High Court in its verdict on Wednesday (September 14, 2022) directed Swamy to hand over his official bungalow to the estate officer within six weeks. Swamy was allotted the bungalow even before he became an MP.
