GUWAHATI: The Assam Government recently announced target of providing COVID-19 vaccines to three lakh people everyday by setting up mega vaccine centres, the state is facing an acute shortage of vaccines even at these ‘mega’ centres.

As per report, Assam had received  91,080 doses of Covishield on June 27, and 52030 doses of Covaxin on June 26, the last supplies to reach the State, according to available data.

As per reports by a senior health official said on Thursday, the government could vaccinate only 16.63 lakh people in the last 10 days, almost 45 per cent less than Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's target of inoculating 30 lakh people, due to a massive shortage of COVID-19 vaccines.

As per the daily COVID-19 bulletin issued by the National Health Mission under the state Health Department, a total of 16,63,405 people were inoculated across the state from June 21 to June 30.  This figure is way below the ambitious 30-lakh target set during Sarma's meeting with all the stakeholders of the districts on June 19.

Assam as a whole has recorded 27,8069 new cases in the second wave of COVID-19, 59,657 cases more than the first phase, 2,18, 412 cases.
