Lucknow: Encouraged by the enactment of a law against triple talaq, Muslim women in Varanasi have sent  Rakhi to MPs from their area and the country's PM Narendra Modi. While some Muslim maulanas have lauded this noble cause, some have termed it as a "cheap propaganda". Opponents said the RSS' subsidiary, the Muslim platform, is doing such a thing.

"The way PM Modi put an end to the practice of triple talaq, he can only do one brother," says Rakhi-making Muslim women. For our brother, we sisters are making rakhi in our hands. A picture of PM Modi has been put on top of Rakhi. "Modiji has put an end to our pathetic situation. Even the upcoming women can avoid the havoc of triple talaq. That is why we sent this holy bond to Rakhi. '

Rama Bano of Ramapura, who makes Rakhi, said, "Prime Minister Modi put an end to the practice of triple talaq. Narendra Modi is the prime minister of the country and an MP for Varanasi Lok Sabha seat as well as elder brother of all Muslim women in the country. We sisters have made rakhi for our brother. She said that the good work that has been done so far will continue.
