VARANASI: On suspicion of cyberbullying, the Varanasi police have detained two online offenders. Police commissioner A. Satish Ganesh claimed that the two were extorting cash from female students after posting their lewd video on WhatsApp.

Chandrapal Singh Parihar and Mohd Nasir of Jhansi were apprehended by the cyber cell police at the city's Naria crossing.

They would demand that the female students strip off their clothing in the guise of body matching while posing as IPS officers. In addition, the police discovered data of bank accounts into which extorted money had been sent, along with mobile phones that included manipulated images and the numbers of several women and girls, he added.

He claimed that two students had just submitted FIRs to the Lanka police. After cases were filed under sections 417, 420 of the IPC, 66C, 66D, and 66E of the IT Act, cyber cell teams were constituted to find the defendants.

Through the use of altered images of police personnel as their WhatsApp profile photos, the accused offenders pretended to be IPS officer Ankit Gupta and deputy SP Deepak, according to the initial inquiry. After deceiving the victims, they would obtain their OTP to use their phones to log into their WhatsApp accounts.

In order to avoid legal action, Chandrapal used to make the females strip off for body matches. Then he would capture their pictures and record recordings, which Nasir would subsequently modify in order to use as a form of blackmail to demand payment, said police. Nasir's account received the transfer of the extortion funds.
