Vasant Panchami: Indian Prez and Orissa CM Patnaik Extend Saraswati Puja Greetings

Indian President Ram Nath Kovind and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik have extended their greetings on the auspicious occasion of Vasant Panchami and Saraswati Puja on Tuesday, 16 February 2021.

Taking to Twitter, Prez Kovind said, “Hearty greetings to all countrymen on the auspicious occasion of Vasant Panchami and Saraswati Puja. I wish that the arrival of spring brings happiness and prosperity in the lives of all the countrymen.”

In the same way, CM Naveen stated, “Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to all on the occasion of Vasant Panchami and ‘puja’ of the learned mother Saraswati. May the life of all be filled with the treasures of knowledge and with happiness and prosperity with the blessings of Maa Saraswati.”

On this  Vasant Panchami day in Odisha, the rituals for chariot construction for the world-famous Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri begins with the worship of the timber logs.  As per tradition, every year on Saraswati Puja day, three Dhaura wood logs are placed at the Chariot yard (Ratha Khala) in the pilgrim town and worshipped with prescribed rituals.

Vasant Panchami, also called Saraswati Puja is a festival that marks the preparation for the arrival of spring. It is a famous festival that marks the end of the winter season and ushers in the springtime. Sarasvati is the Hindu goddess of the Vasant Panchami festival. Young girls wear bright yellow dresses and participate in the festivities. The color yellow holds a special meaning for this celebration as it signifies the brilliance of nature and the vibrancy of life. The whole place bursts with yellow during the festival.
