India is termed as the holy place where we follow lots of tradition that were carried forward from the ancient times. Today, Indian women are celebrating Vat Savitri Vrat also known as Vat Purnima Vrat. Women, in order to seek long life and well being of their husband observe the fast whole for the whole day and worship Banyan tree.

The festival celebrated as per the legend of great Savitri who deceived Lord Yama, God of death in order to return her husband Satyawan’s life. This version of Vana Parva ("The Book of the Forest") that exist in Mahabharata, considered women as the protector of their husband and by this well-known fact, women follow it every year to protect their life partner from every problem.


According to Purnimanta calendar, the fast is observed on Jyeshtha Amavasya which is also known for Shani Jayanti. On the other hand, Amanta calendar says the day has its importance on Jyeshtha Purnima. This time the Purnima Tithi begins at 08:12 of 27th June and will ends at 10:22 of 28th June.

The day is not only for married women as many girls also start to celebrate it before marriage with the belief to get their future husband as per their wish. Their day starts with some fruits in the morning and worship of Banyan tree where they tie a white thread seven times around the tree. The Banyan tree is termed as a Representative of God as its root represents root as God Brahma, stem as God Vishnu, rest of the tree as God Shiva and the whole tree as Goddess Savitri.

The day has a great value In Indian people’s life. The ways to celebrate might gets changed in the modern world but women have never left to celebrate the precious day.
