New Delhi: Pm Narendra Modi has announced the celebration of Veer Bal Diwas on December 26 to commemorate the martyrdom of two sahebzads of Shri Guru Gobind Singh on January 9. But Sikh organisations have objected to PM Modi's announcement. Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, Chairman, Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) has said that we appreciate pm Modi's sentiments, but linking the martyrdom of small Sahibzads with the name 'Bal' is not in keeping with Sikh traditions.

It may be recalled that PM Modi had tweeted on his official Twitter handle on January 9 that "Today, on the auspicious occasion of Prakash Parv of Shri Guru Gobind Singh ji, I am proud to announce that every 26th December from this year will be celebrated as 'Veer Bal Diwas'. This is a true tribute to the courage of the Sahibzads and their quest for justice. '

The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) and Giani Harjinder Singh, the largest body managing Sikh shrines, Acting Jathedar of Akal Takht and former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ally Shiromani Akali Dal (Shi'ad) have appealed for a review of the use of the word "bal" for Sahibzade.
