New Delhi: Today is the birth anniversary of Maharana Pratap, the brave son of the country and a great patriot. Maharaja Maharana Pratap of Mewar had taken the glory of Rajputs to a supreme level. Maharana Pratap has never accepted any slavery and has shown the world why he is called Maharana by battling with Mughal Emperor Akbar. He never accepted the subjugation of the Mughals and kept combating with Mughal emperor Akbar, many times more potent than Mewar.

Maharana Pratap was born on 9 May 1540 at Kumbhalgarh in Mewar. Pratap, the eldest son of Udai Singh II and Maharani Jaywanta Bai, was a great warrior and master of war strategy skills. He protected Mewar from the repeated attacks of the Mughals and did not compromise with his pride, no matter how many adverse circumstances came in his life, but he never gave up. The Maharana faced opposition from his stepmother, Rani Dheerbai, in getting his father's throne, as she wanted the throne to go to her son Kunwar Jagmal. Still, the entire state's ministers and courtiers were in favor of handing over the throne to Pratap. After this, Jagmal left Mewar in anger. He went to Ajmer and came in contact with Akbar. Akbar gifted him the jagir of Jahazpur.

Maharana Pratap is considered to be the most powerful warrior of India. His height was 7 feet 5 inches and it is said that he used to carry an 80 kg spear and two swords, which weighed about 208 kg. The weight of his armor itself was 72 kg. It is said that with a single blow of his sword, the enemy's horse along with the enemy used to get cut into two pieces.
