New Delhi: During the winter season, rising diesel prices have increased vegetable prices. In several Indian cities, the price of tomatoes has crossed Rs 80 per kg. Peas, on the other hand, have increased in price to Rs 100 per kilogramme. Vegetables have grown more expensive due to increased transportation costs due to rising petroleum prices and crop failure due to rainfall in southern regions.

According to the same Bhopal vegetable trader, Rajesh Gupta, vegetable prices rise when transportation costs rise due to increased gasoline prices. Tomatoes cost Rs.80 per kg, onions cost Rs.30 per kg, okra costs Rs.80 per kg, and peas cost Rs.100 per kg. Traders are paid a 5% fee, he said.
