New Delhi: In the wholesale markets of the national capital Delhi, the prices of all vegetables including tomatoes, onions have fallen drastically this month. Tomato is being sold at less than one rupee per kg in Azadpur mandi, Delhi, Asia's largest wholesale market for fruits and vegetables.
Mandi businessmen and adhathi say that the number of retail vendors of vegetables has come down in the market, due to which the demand is less. Talking to the media, the agent of Okhla Mandi, Vijay Ahuja has told that there is no level of tomato in the market even for two rupees. He has told that not only tomatoes, other green vegetables are also being sold in a quarter of a price. Ahuja told that the wholesale price of coriander has been increased from two to three rupees per kg and the torai is being sold at the rate of six rupees per kg.
He said that similarly, the prices of other vegetables have also come down drastically. The average price of onion has come down by one to one and a half rupees so far this month, while the onion price has come down to Rs 2.50 per kg. Ahuja told that there has been a huge decline in the prices of vegetables due to the migration of millions of people from Delhi.
