New Delhi: Vice President and Rajya Sabha President Venkaiah Naidu, speaking in the House on Saturday, said 'the role of the opposition is very important. The opposition has the right to criticize the government, in fact, it is also their duty, but for this, they must also know the right facts which can be trusted.'

At the same time, he also said, 'Just opposing the government at every step to make a record reduces its credibility.' Apart from this, he said, 'Opposition should be well aware on every issue. There may be political differences between us and we can also oppose each other, but it should also be kept in mind that when it comes to the country, at that time we should not do anything that can improve the image of the country. Damage or enemies can use it and say that such a thing has been said in the Parliament of India.'

While referring to the limited time during the proceedings of the House, Venkaiah Naidu said, "It does not matter how long someone speaks in the House, but it matters what he speaks." Further Venkaiah Naidu said, 'During the proceedings of the House, he often sees that the members repeat their views while expressing their views. The Rajya Sabha is the Upper House and the whole country takes inspiration from the proceedings of this House, in such a manner the conduct of the members should be restrained.' At the same time, he urged the members to 'follow the rules of the House procedures and conventions that have been made over the years to ensure the proper functioning of all the business.
