The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Chennai announced that there is a possibility of heavy rain and even very heavy rain. It has also predicted 11.4 cm to 20.4 cm of rain at one or two places in the coastal districts. The IMD has noted the presence of a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal and said that the weather system is likely to move towards Tamil Nadu coast. This will continue for the next three days resulting in heavy rains on October 29 and October 30. It has predicted heavy rains in Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Mayiladuthurai and Nagapattinam districts and also in Karaikal on Thursday.

On Friday and Saturday, it predicted heavy rains over Coastal and South Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Eight districts of Tamil Nadu, including Madurai, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari and Ramanathapuram, are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rains on Sunday as well. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin directed senior officials and deputy commissioners to prevent floods and damage caused by the northeast monsoon.
