Veteran Sports Journalist and Cricketer Commentator Kishore Bhimani passes away

Veteran journalist and former cricket commentator Kishore Bhimani, aged 81, died on Thursday. Tributes and condolence messages started flooding from all quarters with many hailing Bhimani's contributions towards cricket and media.

Bhimani was admitted to Woodlands Multi-specialty Hospital on September 14 and was suffering from multiple health issues. According to a media release by the hospital, Bhimani died at 6.25 am, following sudden cardiac arrest. Kishore Bhimani is eminently remembered for being on-air and calling the 1986 tied Test match between India and Australia in Chennai.

Following his departure to the heavenly abode, a pall of gloom moved down on the country's sports fraternity, with tributes coming in from all quarters. "Rest in Peace (RIP) Kishore Bhimani. He was one of the good Old Fashioned cricket writers who took cricket writings like a player who takes to playing...Condolences to his Spouse Rita & Son Gautam. God Bless All Always. Fondly," legendary Indian spinner Bishan Singh Bedi tweeted.

Bhimani had worked for Kolkata daily 'The Statesman', was a renowned columnist, and wrote 'The Accidental Godman'. He was the president of Calcutta Sports Journalists Club from 1978 to 1980.

Notably, Bhimani had received a lifetime achievement award for his decades-long contribution in the fields of media and commentary in 2013 which was presented to him by former India all-rounder and current head coach Ravi Shastri.
