SEOUL: Vice Defense Minister Shin Beom-chul of South Korea attended a virtual session of a US-led roundtable on support for Ukraine's war-torn country, his Ministry said in a statement.

The Ukraine Defence Contact Group meeting on Monday, hosted by US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, drew representatives from about 40 countries. According to the Ministry on Tuesday, participants reviewed the situation in Ukraine and coordinated measures to aid the country.

Shin condemned Russia's invasion of Ukraine as an "act contrary to the principle of the UN Charter" and explained Seoul's efforts to assist the country, including the shipping of humanitarian and non-lethal goods. He also stated that the administration of President Yoon Suk-yeol will look at methods to make additional contributions "in light of our responsibilities and role as a global important state."

The Yoon administration has popularised the tagline "global key state" to demonstrate its commitment to actively addressing regional and global issues.

The multinational debate began in April to discuss the most efficient measures to help Ukraine. Japan, New Zealand, and NATO nations are among the countries taking part.
