New Delhi: Dussehra  Vijayadashami will be celebrated on October 15 (Friday) this year with much fervour and zeal. The Hindu festival is observed on Shukla Paksha Dashmi during the month of Ashwin as per Hindu lunar calendar and a day after Maha Navami or at the end of Shardiya Navratri. 

On this occasion, India’s  Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday, October 14,  extended his greetings to the nation on the eve of Dussehra and prayed that the festival brings peace, harmony and prosperity to the country.

Sharing concern over twitter handle, Vice President noted- I extend my warm greetings and good wishes to the people of our country on the auspicious occasion of Dussehra. Celebrated with traditional fervour and zeal across the country, Dussehra symbolises the victory of 'Good' over 'Evil'. The festival reminds us of the pious, virtuous and noble life led by Lord Rama and guides us towards the path of righteousness shown by him." In multiple tweet, the Vice president said, "Dussehra is an occasion to remind us that we need to constantly quell the demonic forces and foster goodness and harmony. May this festival bring peace, harmony and prosperity to our country."  

Dussehra denotes victory of good over evil and there are two stories that are associated with the festival in Hindu mythology. In many parts of the country, it is celebrated to mark the victory of Lord Rama over ten-headed demon king of Lanka, Ravana.
