For the first time, a major political party of America, the Democratic Party, has formally nominated a black and a woman of South Asian descent as its Vice President. Kamala Harris's mother was from India and her father was from Jamaica. When Kamla was five years old, her mother Shyamala Gopalan and father Donald Harris got separated. Kamala and her sister Maya have been raised by their mother alone.

After being nominated as the Vice Presidential candidate, Kamla Harris said in her speech that my mother has taught me to be proud of my identity. My mother and my sister Maya are also proud of their Indian heritage because of our mother. At the same, Kamala Harris's stance on Kashmir issue is contrary to that of India. She criticized the Government of India on the Kashmir issue and the Citizenship Amendment Act. Harris had said, 'We have to remind Kashmiris that they are not alone in the world. We are watching their situation. If necessary, we will speak in the matter of human rights and will also interfere."
Vice Presidential candidate Kamala Harris has studied at Howard University. After this, she got a law degree from the University of California. After studying, she became Attorney General in California. She was the first woman and the first African-American to reach this position. Harris held the post of Attorney General twice and after that, in the year 2017 became the Senator of the US Parliament. Kamla is the second black woman to become an MP.
