At the Ram Navami rally taken out by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad in Kolkata, the workers who were holding the statue of Lord Ram shouted slogans of 'Jai Shri Ram'. During this time, as per the directions of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, an additional number of policemen were already deployed to avoid any kind of confrontation. At the same time, Vishwa Hindu Parishad had taken out a procession on the occasion of Ram Navami from near BE College in South Howrah of West Bengal. It is being said that the yatra was going towards Howrah Ghat, however, as soon as the procession reached near PM Basti area, it was suddenly attacked and due to the attack, the devotees had to leave the profession. Several participants of the procession including stone-pelting were injured in the attack here.

BJP┬аleader Shubhendu Adhikar tweeted about the issue and wrote, "In Shivpur in Howrah, on the occasion of Shri Ram Navami, when Ram devotees took out a Shobha yatra, the constable and officer of Howrah police showered them with lathis. Some were also deeply injured. Is it prohibited in this state to follow Sanatan Dharma?" There have been several videos posted on social media that you can see here.''

In this case, it is alleged that stones were pelted at the procession and the police did nothing to stop the attack. The procession was organised by Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal and Durga Vahini and started from The Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur. However, the procession was attacked midway near Fazir Bazar in PM Basti on GT Road in Shibpur, Howrah. On the other hand, state BDJP president Sukant Majumdar also condemned the matter and said that TMC goons attacked in Ram Navami from Howrah to Bankura.
