Vietnam has resumed air lines to 20 nations and areas as part of efforts to resume socioeconomic activity, compared to 28 in the 2019 winter flight plan prior to the Covid-19 epidemic, according to a transport official.

The resumed routes included  Australia, China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, France, Germany, Russia, and the United States. Brunei, India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Finland, Italy, and Switzerland are among the eight locations to which flights have not been resumed.

According to the transport official, there are currently 370 foreign flights from or to Vietnam per week each way, down from a high of 4,185 in the 2019 winter flight schedule. Meanwhile, six domestic airlines, namely Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, Pacific Airlines, Bamboo Airways, Vietravel Airlines, and Vasco, operate 56 domestic air routes with 2,570 weekly flights each way, down two routes and 217 flights from the pre-pandemic schedule in 2019.

Road and rail transportation have largely returned to normal, but passenger travel has yet to resume due to fears of the Covid-19 pandemic, according to Ngoc.

Since February 15, the Vietnamese aviation authorities have officially eliminated all limits on the frequency of international flights, marking the first time the network has been operational in two years. Beginning March 15, the government is working on a plan to fully reopen its border to international travellers.
